Character Name: Arthur Kirkland
Nationality: British
Gender: Male
Birthday: April 23
Age: 28
Education: Masters in Journalism, Media and Communications at Cardiff School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies.
Occupation: Freelance Journalist. He mostly does News, Investigative, Fashion and Celebrity journalism.
Family: (Drop me a PM if you want to include Arthur in as family. I will then edit the Brief History accordingly if necessary.)
Hometown: London, England
Starting Town: New York
Brief History: Arthur comes from a relatively wealthy English family in London. He led a childhood without much participation from his parents. It was not rare for Arthur to have spent a day without getting to see his parents at all. Father and mother had work, he could understand that, but he still could not help but feel lonely at times. In that large, empty house, he seeked refuge and company in books. He would often lose himself in adventures with Alice in Wonderland, dash through the woods in Narnia or climb up the giant beanstalk in search of gold. So much so that he believed in the existence of fairies, giants, dragons, sea monsters and creatures of the like. He loved talking about magic and fantasy with others but many just laughed it off and told him that he was being silly. Discouraged, he eventually stopped discussing about said subject in public. Most would say that this is a good thing and Arthur slowly got more in touch with real life instead of just immersing himself in fiction.
The childhood fantasies that he had hidden away for so long however, was one day brought back to see the light when he witnessed a sighting of the Loch Ness Monster as he passed by Loch Ness. His obssession with fairytales renewed and he wanted to prove to the world that magical creatures do exist. This fueled his determination of getting into journalism. After all, he likes writing and he could use it as a channel to tell the world all about his findings.
Arthur got into university and took up a journalism course with that goal in mind. This obssession did however, die down a little (but not completely) as he grew up but discovered that he really liked journalism and never once regretted his choice.
He eventually graduated and decided to head off into the working society as a freelance journalist. He often travelled around the world in search of inspirations and to see the world, of course. He never really had any friends (or any lovers, for that matter) as the relationships he formed with others are often short ones, losing all forms of contact with them once he moved on to another part of the world.
Personality: Arthur is anabsolutely invincible English gentleman. He is extremely polite and courteous (when not agitated), but it is also because of these traits that most people would label him as cold or distant.
He is quite reserved, never speaking unless when (he feels) it is necessary.
He is an absolute perfectionist and because of that, often gets stressed over the most minor of details (like if you did not prepare tea the proper way), resulting in his foul temper (which he vents on certain (?) deserving people - this comes later when the plot develops and Arthur actually went ahead to go make some friends, I guess xD). And also because of his perfectionist nature, he tends to depreciate himself (although his apperance might show otherwise).
He is extremely difficult to please but he wouldnever try not to show his dissatisfaction (because of his polite nature) and gives vague answers on how he feels about matters; for example, 'I suppose so', 'I think you should not'.
He values his pride above anything else and as such, would often make up ridiculous lies to cover up his embarrassment which often ends up in the forms of insults or (rude) retorts towards the other party, driving away potential friendships.
He is someone who believes that life is better simpler and with a routine, steering clear from excitements or changes. Someone who, would much rather take a walk than go to a theme park and still keeps photographs even when it is faded and brown.
He is overprotective of those whom he holds dear to his heart and gets jealous very easily. (I guess this would also come later in plot.)
Overall, he is quite a pleasant person to be with if you manage to get on his good side. If you don't then well... Good luck and good bye to the gentleman side of him.
Appearance: Arthur has a head of wild sandy-blond hair that he could not quite tame. He has a set of brilliant, emerald green eyes that complements his fair skin. He stands at a height of 175CM and has a rather slender build. He also has a tattoo of Union Jack in the shape of a unicorn on the back of his left hip. But the most outstanding feature in his appearance has got to be his really, really thick eyebrows (that he claims to have trimmed).
Fashion Style: Arthur's fashion style is quite unique and casual. For most of the time, he would wear a plain, white button down shirt with a skinny tie on the inside. And on the outside, he would wear a hoodie. This is matched with either boot cut jeans or trousers and to top off the whole look, a pair of sneakers. There are times when he would wear a pair of non-prescription glasses but it does not happen very often.
For more formal events, he would, of course, wear a suit like a proper gentleman should.
Goals: Proving the existence of fairyfolks and monsters, examples being Loch Ness Monster, Big-foot, Unicorns and creatures of the like. He also hopes to see all parts of the world, not just the different countries but its cities as well.
Secret: Arthur has two secrets.
The first one comes in the form of a tattoo. It is a unicorn-shaped one with a motif of the Union Jack. He had gotten the tattoo that one time when he had been horribly drunk. He never bothered to remove it however, as he did not want to go through the trouble (and admittedly, the pain) of removing it. He is rather sensitive about this and would be extremely wary when someone is close to that area, tugging down on his clothes (as inconspiciously as he could) to ensure that his tattoo would not be accidentally revealed.
The second secret is his sleepmate, Mister Brown. Mister Brown is a teddy bear that he had received from his parents during his tenth birthday. Since Arthur was almost always alone, he would cuddle with Mister Brown in bed at night to ease the loneliness that he often felt. Eventually, it became more of a 'habit' and without it, he would not be able to get a good night's sleep. The teddy bear is old but it is rather well-maintained.
Which of the two is more embarrassing, Arthur is not too sure himself.
Other: Arthur, being a frequent traveller, knows quite a number of languages in its most basic form.
He likes drinking alcohol, but prefers beer over wine any day. He gets drunk almost ninety-percent of the time, not because he has low tolerance for alcohol but rather because he is a binge drinker. Also, he is a bad drunk and would either go into depression mode or high mode. Both of which he would do foolish things so it doesn't really matter.
He loves cooking and is often seen getting down recipes to try when he gets the chance to. And yes, for the last time, his cooking is just fantastic. (But in all honesty, no, it really isn't.)
Other things that he likes include tea, curry, plants and floriography.

(I shamelessly took this roleplay sample from my previous application so... |D)
England is frustrated. Very frustrated.
I looked up to the pile of paperwork on my table and groaned. There is still a lot more to go. With a sigh, I decided to take a break and leaned back in the armchair. I took the ceramic cup containing the delightful liquid that is tea and began to sip on it, instantly feeling myself beginning to relax until...
"IGGY!!!" America shouted as he came, or rather, burst through the doors. Having caught completely off guarded, I spat out the tea.
That git is laughing.
"You better have a good reason for this, America." I took a short look down at the stain on my shirt before shooting America a death glare, rather displeased with the fact that I now have more work to do when there was already a pile on the table.
He continued to laugh. I stood up and slammed my hands on to the table hard. America immediately ceased his laughter and looked at me with wide eyes. I smirked inwardly, smug that I have created fear in the self-proclaimed hero.
"What is it that you have come for today, Jones?" I asked, feet tapping on the ground signalling my impatience. America, upon hearing the question immediately brightened up and reverted to his normal self. I raised an eyebrow. That can not be good.
"To say hi!" he declared wth a smile. I crossed my arms and looked at him disbelievingly.
"You travelled across The Pond," I took a deep breath. "To say 'hi'?"
America smiled and nodded. "Of course! The role of a hero is to help people in need. And you," He pointed a thumb at me. "Are in dire need of company!"
"And what, exactly are you tryng to say, America?"
"That you are a lonely, stuffy old man?"
"Out."
"But Igggyyyyyyy."
"OUT."
America pouted and used his ultimate last resort on me; the infamous kicked puppy look. I looked away, knowing that I would inevitably give in if I continued to look at that expression. I furrowed my eyebrows. The only reason why that expression ever worked was because it reminded me too much of a younger America.
America walked over so that he was now in my vision, that look still intact.
"S-Sod off, you bugger!"
America did not relent. My eyebrow twitched a little.
"Iggggggyyyyy~~~"
"It's England, you bloody obnoxious, overweight moron!"
