[/b]Character Name: Mathias Khler
Nationality: Danish
Gender: Male
Birthday: June 5th
Age: 22
Education: Completed studies until grade 10 when he dropped out to begin full time training.
Occupation: Professional ice hockey player for the Herning Blue Fox (expected to play for the Danish Lions in the coming Olympics).
Family: Parents are alive and kicking as well as incredibly supportive of his career path. He is not on speaking terms with his little brother however, not because of one particular fight but because they have never gotten along well and his traveling now allows him to place distance between the two.
Hometown: Copenhagen, Denmark
Starting Town: London
Brief History: Mathias grew up in an almost disappointingly normal house with a loving, working-class family. His father is a teacher and mother was a nurse, however she gave up her career in order to raise her two sons. As a child he was spoilt with affection and attention along with his brother who would compete with him almost for their parents love. Even from a young age the two bickered and fought constantly, a habit they never outgrew and left them on relatively bad terms when the Dane started his travels. There are times when Mathias contemplates calling his brother as by this point they have yet to speak for one year and three months, but his pride will not allow him to do so. In these moments of weakness he reminds himself, there is nothing to be said.
On his seventh birthday, Mathias was given his first pair of ice skates to use on his fathers small, home-made ice rink in their back garden. He was a natural skater who desperately sought to improve in speed and skills without leaving much thought to consequences. The first serious injury he received from skating was while attempting to skid to a stop on the ice. Thrown off balance, he was unable to slow his speed and quite literally broke his neighbours fence as well as his right arm. He was ten at the time. This didnt seem to bother him in the least as he refused to be distracted by any pain caused by his skating and so, after his arm healed, he was enrolled in his schools ice hockey team.
From the beginning he had his priorities set: hockey before school work. Initially, his father was disappointed by this as both of his parents were considerably well educated and his younger brother had decidedly followed in their footsteps. When he was scouted in the tenth grade he dropped out of high school to begin full time training as a professional hockey player. His father was furious and refused to speak to him for months after the decision was made. Mathias' mother however was understanding and supportive of his decision, knowing from a young age that her son was 'never going to be a doctor', while loving him all the same. He has long since made amends with his father who never fails to watch his games and offer any support he needs.
During the first match of the season when Mathias was just nineteen his lower, left leg was broken in a particularly bad fall on the ice. He was forced to sit the majority of the season out and it was at this time that he discovered that the best method of coping with his difficulties was drinking, a habit he has unfortunately carried with him. Once his training resumed he was convinced that he needed to work harder than ever before and created a strict routine and diet.
By the age of twenty two he had joined Denmark's National Team and is currently expected to appear in the Olympics, should he qualify.
Personality: Mathias is notably friendly upon first greeting him and often adorns a goofy smile that suggests that he may have received a few too many pucks to the head during practice. He is neither particularly logical nor well read, leaving many to question his intelligence while conversing with him. His memory is as basic as they come, and he has an almost abnormally short attention span, meaning that he often needs to hear things repeated in order to have them drilled in place. Despite this, the Dane is trilingual, speaking Danish, English and Swedish as were taught and regularly practiced in his house hold as a child, leaving him rather fluent in each. Anyone that knows Mathias well can see that he is harmlessly dense and can remain oblivious to the most obvious and sometimes important details. This personality trait frequently causes him to remain clueless to many situations regarding himself, a sensation he has by now become accustomed too.
With him, Mathias carries a natural air of confidence which he finds is advantageous when dealing with the media. He is very friendly and social; especially when he needs to be at functions which he knows will help him in some way with his career. When the situation calls for it he can be charming, although this appearance is often ruined when he turns enthusiastic and his bubbly personality may overtake this cool facade. Mathias is generally very open, especially when it isn't called for and can be quite the chatterbox; if you are willing, he will sit down and tell you his life story. Those who may be star struck when initially getting to know him however may be put off by his rather obnoxious mannerisms and high opinion of himself. He sees little to no point in denying that he is talented in his profession, he is hot and his Porsche was very expensive.
The Dane is cheerful by nature and quick to make friends, although keeping them can be an entirely different matter altogether. He may be an all over good guy but can drive his friends away by being both clingy and eccentric. Along with this he ignores warnings to be wary around strangers and fans as he can be overwhelmingly friendly at times. He has yet to be hurt by anyone he has gotten to know, but he is new to his career and is often busy with training and physio. He probably has a little too much faith in mankind to optimistically believe that he wont be used by the wrong people. However, it isnt just his ignorance that blinds him from this reality but his stubborn desire to prove that he can handle having friends that arent his team mates.
His temper is far from mild and his open personality often causes him to speak his mind when he shouldnt. This leads to unnecessary trouble for the Dane and when he feels as though he is backed into a corner he will lash out to defend himself be it verbally or physically. He also lacks patience, meaning he is both easily bored and if he doesnt like something he will simply not tolerate it by removing himself or the disturbance.
Appearance: Mathias has short, choppy blonde hair which is often spiked to create an edgy appearance when it is not flattened by sweat beneath his helmet. His azure eyes are large and childlike at times, while his skin is fair from having spent much of his time inside, training or competing in games. He practically always adorns his trade mark thousand watt smile which is often described as being impossibly wide. He has a well-defined jaw line, fairly noticeable as he has little hair framing the sides of his face and a slight dent in his nose which is visible only from close examination or a searching eye. This was the result of a fight breaking out on the ice last year; Mathis received a violet blow to the head with a hockey stick once his helmet was whacked off, resulting in a broken nose and a game misconduct penalty.
He stands at roughly 62 in stature with broad shoulders and a healthy, muscular physique which is in constant maintenance. Mathias hands are rough and calloused as a result of his work and are fairly large with long fingers. He has neither tattoos nor piercings; however, because of the nature of his career he has a number of faded scars littered on his body, but none that are particularly significant to him.
Fashion Style: On the Ice, Mathias wears the Herning Blue Fox uniform, which consists of the standard hockey equipment (Helmet, neck guard, shoulder pads, elbow pads, hockey gloves, jock strap, shin guards and ice skates). The colours are a dull grey with the white symbol of the Blue Fox; however, Mathias dream is to wear the red and white uniform belonging to the Danish Lions as he hopes to represent his country in the Olympics. Accessories on the ice include his mouldable mouth guard which has saved him from many injuries and a hockey stick, which he is infamously known in his team, for breaking during practise and matches.
Off the ice he dresses simply since he has little sense of fashion and almost no interest in it. He will wear a singlet on its own or beneath a button down collared shirt and jeans to accompany this. He carries one dress habit from the ice and that is, no matter what shoes he wears, if they have laces, they will always be tied obsessively tight. On the occasion that he needs to wear a suit, it is chosen for him and is always black, often with a red tie.
Goals: The Olympics. Mathias would desperately love even a chance to just play in them if not to bring home the gold. Short term goals vary depending on skills he sees need sharpening but are all generally related to his career path.
Secret: As far as secrets go, Mathias is a fairly open guy. Its not widely known that he doesnt get along with his brother; however he wouldnt hesitate to talk about it if asked. He is also bisexual and again will generally only speak about this upon confrontation. Possibly his biggest secret (if you can call it that) is his intake of alcohol since he is a borderline alcoholic and has often been advised by his coach and doctor to watch his drinking or quit all together. This has never really been an option for him as the addiction is fairly serious and despite his dedication to his goals, it is the one compromise he refuses to make.
Other:
*He loves kids despite his terrible relationship with his little brother.
*As far as fears go, he is terrified of serious injury that would prevent him from achieving his goals.
*He has broken: his right arm, left leg, three fingers and his nose in his career so far.
*His most prized possession is a Viking battle axe which he bought from a rather shifty salesman. Much of the original artifact has been replaced, however, he still sees it as something worth obsessively looking after.

Mathias had been advised more than once now not to go on the trapeze when drunk. This time, however, he had hardly had control over the situation. Late night practise meant that he started drinking early in the morning, before taking a twelve hour long nap and eventually waking in mid-afternoon. Now, normally he wouldnt start drinking again until after his performance but, he had had few other options. His head was fucking killing him having not completely sobered up and everyone knows (or they should know) that a beer is the best cure for a hangover.
And so he had one.
When that didnt work, he had another.
And another.
And after his ninth he was beginning to think the headache had little to nothing to do with the alcohol hed consumed the previous day.
So now, to be clear: yes he was drunk and he would definitely still have to perform.
Glazed eyes scanned the room from his bed and Mathias sat up begrudgingly on his mattress. He rested his head in his palm, drowsy and not as light as he normally would feel after a descent amount of rest and downing a rather absurd amount of alcohol for someone who had just woken.
He had been asked numerous times not to attend practice while intoxicated, however, nothing had ever been said on the matter when it came to performing. This was most likely because no member would be stupid enough to attempt an act on the trapeze if their vision was swimming as much as his.
Really they should have warned him before hand because now it didnt seem as though he had a choice. Well, at least his co-workers wouldnt be drunk. He thought that if two out of three of them were able to hold it together they could pass off a half descent act.
He tried to stand but stumbled over his boots, laughing to himself as he did because apparently almost falling over was hilarious to the Danish man.
Curtains up in fifteen. It was going to be a long night.
