Francis sighed, although with a small smile. Fine, apparently Arthur had had enough of him already.
The French gave one look to the other's red hand but said nothing. Hopefully it wasn't as bad as it seemed, and then again, Arthur was old enough to take care of himself, right?
He shrugged as he took another bit of pastry. The question Arthur made surprised him a bit - only a bit, though. The man surely was straightforward in every reaction, so Francis he knew he shouldn't be surprised, after all. It was just - well, Francis was playing around with Arthur. But when your toy asks you what are you doing, then it stops being just playing.
"I told you already. The truth is that I was home alone tonight, and I didn't know what to do. Which is why I decided to go out and to the bookshop in the first place." he explained, casually resting his chan on the back of his hand "Then I stumbled on you, and it looked to me like you could use someone to make you soften your resentment towards this city, at least a bit."
Which meant that he was definitely spending some time with him because he had nothing better to do, and because he thought this would do Arthur some good.
Not because he was simply enjoying their time together and because he actually wanted to hear a "thank you" coming out from those pretty lips - not a sarcastic one, at least. (Francis was old enough to know himself and admit that the latter reasons were probably more influent than the former, but one thing was what he could know and keep to himself, and another thing was what he wanted the other to know)
"You're actually an interesting divertissement." he added. He didn't necessarily meant it in a spregiative way, but his tone came out as teasing as always.
"But then, why are you staying anyway, if you're so annoyed? I simply invited you here, I didn't tie you to the chair or anything. And you aren't even eating one of those!" Francis underlined, tapping with the fork on the gracious plate that contained the pastries.
